What I’m Watching Wednesday

The Fall season is here and that means new shows!  It also means that I am watching way too much TV.  Since having a baby – I’ve realized that I need to break up with some shows.  But first – I am analyzing the new episodes of shows I already watch AND some new shows to make my determination.

So for new shows, I’ve watched:
Up All Night
Free Agents
New Girl

Here’s my analysis so far:
Free Agents
I just read that Free Agents was already cancelled.  I actually found some of it to be amusing but it was obvious that it wasn’t going to last.  NBC’s really fast cancellation has made my decision about breaking up with it easy.

NOT that funny.  I think SHE is normally funny but this show is just not funny.  It isn’t making it into my rotation.

Up All Night
I’m trying to give it a chance.  Sometimes it is funny, sometimes it isn’t.  We’ll see.  As a new parent, I really thought I’d enjoy it more.  But I really like Will Arnett.  I’m not sure how much longer I can last.

New Girl
I think this show is cute.  I generally like Zooey Deschanel but she isn’t why I enjoy the show.  The roommates are actually pretty funny.

I.LOVE.JEREMY.SISTO.  My love for him goes back to Clueless.  LOVE HIM.  And my love was solidified when he was on Six Feet Under (one of the best shows in the history of tv shows).

But this comedy?  I’m afraid it isn’t going to make it.  It make me laugh but there is something about it… I just know it won’t last.  That makes me sad for Jeremy.

Shows I’m Breaking Up With

I think it is time I give up on all my Bravo shows.  That means no more Real Housewives.  It is time to say goodbye.

There are others that I’m too embarrassed to admit I watch but I’m dropping them too.

So what are you watching these days?

If She Wants It… (Mommy Monday)

Annmarie seems like she is THISCLOSE to crawling.  I know I’ve been saying it for weeks now but she really does seem close this time.  There were a few moments over the weekend that Jeremy and I thought we were about to witness Annmarie take off crawling… only to have her flop down on her belly.

But even so, we have figured out that if she wants something – she has figured out how to get it.  The idea of putting toys just out of reach from her so that she’ll try to crawl towards them doesn’t matter.  She simply rotates her body (this she has figured out how to do on her hands and knees – she picks up her hands and rotates her body!) and then rolls on the ground to the object.  Or she’s figured out how to push off of things with her legs to put her within arms reach of the desired object.

Right now her desired object has been the pacifier.  She was off the pacifier for awhile but now its her best friend.  I suspect it has to do with her teething. She has 4 teeth coming in right now!  She’s been a bit of a sourpuss lately because of it.

Back to her determination to grab things though.  We have an exersaucer that allows her to walk around a bit.  A part of it is supposed to stay stationary but allow her to walk around in a circle.  We have this in the kitchen and I set it up when I’m prepping food or cleaning her bottles.

Lately – she has figured out that she can move the entire exersaucer if she just pushed forward really hard.  What this means is that I have to stay on top of her so that she doesn’t open drawers or pull down pots and pans.  You really have no idea how NOT babyproof your house is until you have a somewhat mobile baby on your hands.

But the one thing she absolutely loves doing is pulling down the towels that are hanging off of various appliances (dishwasher and oven).  I tried to take a pic with my phone but it is very blurry but you can see her trail of towels.  She pulls them down, chews on them (she’s chewing on one in the picture), waves them about and then drops them on the floor as she moves on to the next one.
Pulling down towels

I’ll end this post with a cute picture of Annmarie:
Annmarie in sunflowers

We visited a sunflower field over the weekend.  My friend, Myriam, gave me the scoop on this field after I admired her great shots from a maternity session.  For anyone in Maryland that wants to check out the field – it is in Jarrettsville, MD.   (Clear Meadow Farm)

Anywho – I’m sharing this one picture (instead of the 100 that we took… but if you want to see them, you can see the album here is because I’m balancing Annmarie on my head.  I really wanted a picture of just her surrounded by sunflowers so I did what any mom would do… I improvised and balanced my dear 23 lb baby on my head.  You can still see my hands but only if you’re looking!

Okay and I really wanted a close up of her admiring the flower.  We didn’t realize there was a bee on the flower and after Annmarie grabbed the flower and agitated the bee – we took off running.  We didn’t want to find out if she was allergic to bees.

I’m just sharing this because I think its cute.

Whimsy Wednesday (I still have yet to make anything)

I have good intentions… I really do. But for some reason, I can’t seem to get motivated to sew anything. Here is my sewing machine right now:

Hooray for taking it out of the box but all I’ve done is put it another box of sorts (a basket). I put all my sewing related things in this basket like a sewing book (I’ve read 2 pages of the intro), a sewing DVD (it came with the machine), some sewing supplies (pins, pin cushion, thread and some fabric).

But now I have started throwing other things into the basket… Some photos, a checkbook, a stroller fan… And this means things are looking grim for my new hobby.

Help me, friends… Help motivate me.

Another hobby I have let fall by the wayside is photography (I still don’t really know how to use my DSLR).

I wish I could claim that having a baby has diverted my attention but I know several women who can sew and take amazing photos… All learned/honed while caring for a baby.

Someone teach me. Motivate me. Help me!

What hobbies do you have?

Mommy Monday (er… Tuesday)

Warning – this post is ALL about Annmarie.  If you don’t care, close the browser now.  I won’t know that you did.  If you continue reading, remember that I warned you that this stuff probably only interests moms.

I think we’ve been really lucky with Annmarie. Aside from being the cutest baby in the world (totally not biased) – she’s been pretty easy in terms of eating.

Breastfeeding was tough for the first month but now it is ridiculously easy (and part of that has to do with Annmarie – it was a joint effort to get to this breastfeeding nirvana).

Her foray into solids has also been easy. The only food she hated was peaches (I tried to give them to her 3 times and she screamed and gagged each time).

Sunday we gave her tofu for the first time. I was planning on mashing it up into her oatmeal but Jeremy cut some tofu into small chunks and placed them on her high chair table. I was surprised that she went for it! I think she just likes picking things up with her hands and shoving them in her mouth but still – she ate the tofu.

Eating Tofu!

Now her daily weekday schedule of eating consists of: nursing in the morning, 16 ounces of breastmilk (spread out over the course of 8 hours while at daycare), 2 solid meals (about 2-3 tbsp of a solid – usually a fruit and a vegetable), 1 solid meal from mom (usually oatmeal) and then her final nursing before bed.

After typing that out, I’m thinking that seems like a lot of food. And let me tell you… solid food = solid poop. I talk more about poop now than I ever have in my life. Poop poop poop poop poop. Poop.

It seems she has started to grasp the concept of peek-a-boo. It is the cutest thing EVER and I’m probably exaggerating. I try not to be one of those parents that thinks their child is a genius but it is hard to argue that she seems to understand peek-a-boo. I have to start it but once I hand her a blanket, she’ll hold it up in front of her face for a few seconds and then drop it down quickly so I yell, “peek-a-boo!” She’ll do it a few times before she gets bored with it.

I wish I had a picture but you all know how she seems to react when I try to film her doing anything cute.

She hasn’t crawled yet despite Jeremy thinking she’d be crawling within 10 days of her rocking back and forth on her knees. I mentioned she’s started yoga poses but she hasn’t done much else. It seems like she doesn’t know what to do with her arms. She’s been shifting her feet back and forth like she wants to propel herself forward (or she’s just stretching her calves) but her arms stay stationary so she just plops back down.

I’ve got a fever

… and the cure is another baby! Seriously, guys… I’ve got some serious baby fever. I think the fact that Annmarie has been a pretty easy baby has led me to believe that Jeremy and I have super genes that only produce awesome babies. Plus my dad going into the hospital this summer solidified that I’d really like Annmarie to have a sibling to share the burden of caring for her crazy elderly parents someday. Having a sibling that is 13 years older is so much different than having one close in age that you can play with growing up.

But my baby fever is OUT OF CONTROL. ACK! And I feel like there are a ton of people on Facebook that are pregnant or just had babies so that isn’t helping my fever at all.

And I mean… how can you look at this baby and NOT want more just like her?
